COURSE OUTLINE: ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY II BIOL 2402
CREDIT: 4 semester hours CONTACT HOURS: 3 lecture, 3 lab PLACEMENT: freshman PREREQUISITES: BIOL 2401

COURSE DESCRIPTION: A study of the anatomy and physiology of the human body, including homeostatic regulation of the body and reproduction, oriented toward the health sciences. Credit in BIOL 2401, with a grade of C or higher, is prerequisite.

COURSE OBJECTIVES: After studying the material presented in the texts, lecture, laboratory, computer tutorials, and other resources, the student should be able to complete all behavioral/learning objectives listed below with a minimum competency of 70%. The student should be able to describe, illustrate, appraise the significance of, analyze, and draw generalized patterns of the cellular, histological, anatomical, physiological, clinical and pathological workings of the following: (SCANS C-6,7,8,9,14, F-1,2,5,10-17)

1.The three units of the cardiovascular system.
2.The lymphatic system and the immune system.
3.The digestive system.
4.Metabolism and energetics.
5.The respiratory system.
6.The urinary system.
7.Fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balance.
8.The reproductive system of the male and female.
9.Pregnancy and human development, including parturition and neonatal adjustments.

TEXTBOOKS:

Anatomy & Physiology: The Unity of Form and Function, Kenneth Saladin, 4th Edition.

Guide to Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory, current edition, Gregory & Ott

METHODS OF EVALUATION: The lecture grade is determined by averaging test grades over each unit covered.
The laboratory grade is determined by the average of exercise grades (50%), and practical exams (50%).
The course grade is determined as follows: Lecture: 50% Laboratory: 30% Final Examination: 20%

 Letter grades: 90-100 = A; 80-89 = B; 70-79 = C; 60-69 = D; 59 and below = F.   Minimum level of competency is 70 (C).

WITHDRAWAL PROCEDUREIt is the student’s responsibility to drop a class.  All drops must be processed by an Academic Advisor appropriate to the student’s major.  If more than two labs are missed before the final withdrawal deadline, the student will receive an F in the course unless a withdrawal has been processed. Extenuating circumstances, such as an extended illness, will be considered on an individual basis. Labs missed due to school dismissal are not included.  Refer to the Student Handbook for policies and procedures regarding conduct, attendance, withdrawal, and other issues.
