Thinking about taking a Biology course via Internet? Ask yourself the following questions:
If you answered YES to ALL 3 questions, then you have a good chance of successfully completing a course via the Internet. The Internet option is designed specifically for students with long commutes, unusual schedules, or other reasons that make attending lecture difficult or inconvenient, but do NOT compromise study time. Most students find that the internet section requires MORE, not less, time to cover the material sufficiently. The BIOL internet courses at TJC are designed to allow students to learn the material and document their mastery without regularly attending lectures. For most courses, students are required to enroll in and attend a regular lab section on campus. Students in the internet sections are given the same class notes and tests as traditional students. Tests are taken at the TJC testing center. BIOL 1406-1407 is for biology majors and others transferring to institutions that require majors-level freshman science credit. Labs must be done on-campus every week. BIOL 2401-2402 is for students in allied health / health science majors. Students must be able to have regular access to internet- or CD-based tutorials. There are several tutorial programs available; there is also a text web page, which has practice quizzes and hyperlinked text. The instructor has developed animated notes to help with some of the more difficult material. Labs must be done on-campus every week.
