Biology Online Course Information Thinking about taking a Biology course via Internet?
I have taught Biology courses at Tyler Junior College since I moved to Tyler in 1982. While I teach primarily Human Anatomy and Physiology, I am now teaching the internet majors biology. I also occasionally get a chance to teach Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy, and various courses for the non-science major. I have been teaching Anatomy & Physiology I and II lectures via internet since Fall, 2001. My philosophy of teaching is "Make sure you get your money's worth!" Seriously, the scope of Anatomy and Physiology, coupled with the critical nature of working in the Health Sciences, requires that students strive to meet a very high level of mastery in this subject. I do my best to help each student reach that high level. I continuously update my skills and awareness of the internet-based teaching arena, so that my online classes exemplify the best practices of distance education. On a personal note, my areas of interest beyond teaching biology include keeping up with environmental issues (biodiversity, conservation...), mechanisms of evolution, and science education. My doctoral degree is in Forestry (Stephen F. Austin State University, 2002); my research area was biodiversity in plantation understory. I was president of the National Association of Biology Teachers in 2004. Send me e-mail at bott@tjc.edu
