My name is Cathryn Patterson Cates.  Although I was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, my family moved to Tyler in 1955. I am a proud alumnus of Ramey Elementary, Boulter Junior High, John Tyler High, Tyler Junior College (A.A., December 1973), the University of Texas at Austin (B.A., 1975; B.S., 1977), the University of Texas at Tyler (M.S. 1979), and East Texas State University.  As a student at Tyler Junior College, I played the flute in the Apache band under Jack Smith, served as a biology laboratory assistant, and was inducted into the Alpha Omicron Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa.  Upon graduating from Austin, I taught one semester at Seguin High School and one year at Thomas K. Gorman High School and Middle School.  I just completed my 30th year at Tyler Junior College where I have taught General Biology, Human Biology, Environmental Biology, Anatomy and Physiology I and II, and Microbiology.
